Heading on a romantic winter city break but not sure what to pack? Ive got you covered. As you may have seen, Mackenzie and I recently enjoyed a wonderful break in one of my favourite Italian cities, Florence (or Firenze if youre a local). Ive always thought it was one of the countrys most beautiful places with sensational food as well as amazing art and architecture so we had a very spoiling few days where we got some time to really explore. A few days away without Honor meant I could take carry-on only (which is bliss for a long haul regular like me) so taking hard-working wardrobe staples and things that work for both daytime exploring as well as evenings out are essential. Read on to discover what to pack for a chilly city break.
Duvet coat
This coat, which we are affectionally calling the garbage bag is THE thickest, warmest, cosiest coat Ive EVER worn. If it wasnt so long Id happy ski in it. Duvet style coats are a real early 2020 trend and its literally like walking around in a cloud. So this is the first thing you need to pack for your chilly weekend awaybut youll need to wear it on the flight so as not to take up all your suitcase space. Go for classic black or navy because it goes with everything and add some colour in your clothing underneath.
Rollneck sweater
The best sweater for travelling as you can cosy up on the plane and wear it to relax during the day as well as on a night out- its a really good day to evening layer. A duvet coat with a big collar and a rollneck worn together means you dont have to pack endless scarves to stay warm. A lot of places crank up the heating when its cold outside so the simpler the outfit the better. Keep your polo neck fairly thin and not too fitted- wear it over jeans for exploring the sights and tuck it into a mini skirt for dinner. No need to pack another chunky jumper.
Over-the-knee boots
I love over-the-knee boots for a weekend away. I wore mine over skinny trousers for extra warmth and then with a dress or skirt which was still so cosy. My boots are navy- I do love black but with such a thick black coat its nice to have something in another colour and although mine have a little block heel- over the knee boots are a great choice if you want to wear flats that arent trainers. I literally wore these the whole time we were away, and theyre great to travel in.
Mini skirt
A mini skirt is so easy to pack and is another hard working multi-outfit piece. I brought my leather one as its a bit smarter and is so easily dressed up with my over-the-knee boots and some jewellery. Ive been loving leather trousers recently but this skirt is so comfy and so much easier to wear than I thought it would be. Adding different textures to an outfit makes things so much more fun and Ill be wearing this right through Spring. This is also a great way to add the pop of colour that I mentioned above.
