I’m so thankful to have everyone home for a good rest, but being off our daily routines means there’s a lot of clutter happening at our house. I can’t even count the number of shoes piling up by the front door! Especially in the wintertime, shoes and jackets seem to multiply since the weather changes so often here.

Add to that the seasonal gloves, hats, scarves, etc. and then a few friends or neighbors visiting–and it really piles up. I remember one year when my son came home with someone else’s winter coat–because they all looked the same!

My biggest tip to organize your family’s winter gear to help smooth the return to daycare and school after the holidays is this: Use labels!

Label kids’ clothing

Having identical twins, we’ve always labeled shoes, mittens, anything there’s two (or more) of. By labeling winter gear with your family’s last name, you’re much more likely to have it returned after it’s lost. And yes, things will get lost, no matter how careful you are.

I’ve always preferred having just our last name on labels, since we share clothes and pass them down from big to small. But you can also personalize for each child and let them choose their favorite color or style.

NameBubbles labels are durable enough for all your holiday and seasonal activities–even wet weather! In fact, both the press-and-stick and iron-on clothing labels are laundry safe, so you don’t have to worry about them falling off over time.

Label sports gear

I love our neighborhood and how everyone comes out on the big snow days. There’s another opportunity for labeling–which makes sharing more fun because you’ll get your stuff back at the end.

Use the Family Label Pack to label your kids’ sleds and snow saucers. We’ve always labeled my son’s swim backpack and gear with waterproof labels since everyone on the team has the same equipment.

Label food & kitchen gear

The lost and found is easier to navigate when you’ve labeled your kids’ bottles, sippy cups, snack containers and other lunch gear. The Daycare Labels Pack will cover everything, plus the labels are dishwasher safe so they’re long-lasting.

These labels make the perfect gift for parents-to-be so they can use them to label clothing, blankets, bottles and whatever else is in their future.

Label toys & games

Those winter break days can feel really long sometimes, so we like to trade games and building sets with friends and neighbors. Use your last name labels on board games, plastic and metal toys, and bins you use to organize them.

You can even personalize your own Write-On Labels to say something like “This book belongs to” or “Please return to” if you’d prefer.
