This traveler’s brilliant travel hack has sparked a surge of other insights you might find useful for your next trip.

When you stay at hotels, you might be rudely awoken by a ray of sunlight seeping through your windows, despite having shut the curtains. There’s usually a gap in the middle that seems impossible to close.

Twitter user Rick Klau shared a clever tip to hold blackout curtains without having any sunlight peeking in the middle when you plan on sleeping in. In a photo shared by the user, curtains are shown clasped together using clips from his hotel’s clothes hanger.

The idea did not come from him, and he expressed gratitude to the internet user who introduced the trick years back. “You have improved every night I’ve spent in a hotel,” Klau wrote.

His tweet has gone viral, amassing over 400,000 likes and multiple comments, with people sharing their own useful hacks.

Other helpful tips suggested by social media users include transforming an ironing board into a desk with adjustable heights, using the television as a charging point and protecting your hands from the dirt on a remote control by covering it with a shower cap.

Carry a travel size bottle of Lysol (they sell them in stores everywhere). But check with your airlines to make sure you can bring them in your luggage. Spray everything when you get in the room. Also, Lysol wipes can be used for handles & remotes.

Who uses shower caps in the shower?!?! I take them home and use them to cover bowls of food in the fridge. Or I use them to wrap around my shoes in my suitcase.

Brilliant.

My favorite hotel hack: Your ironing board is an adjustable height desk. Since the chairs are never the right height, use the ironing board for long hotel work.

Almost every hotel I've been to had a wireless router hidden somewhere in the room... I just plug my laptop directly into it and enjoy high speed internet.

My hotel hack is hang your shirt up on a coat hanger on the back of the shower door. The steam will help the creases fall out from it being in your case.
