How To Make Your Hair Look Healthy & Beautiful
Todays haircare guide shares a few hair products and tools that I use to keep my hair healthy and beautiful.
In the past, Ive experienced dry, frizzy, and damaged hair. As a result of coloring, over-styling, and using excessive heat, my hair was once dull, lifeless, and frazzled. But through regular conditioning, protecting, and nourishing treatments, Ive brought my hair back to its healthiest state.
The moral of this story is if I can make my hair look healthy and beautiful, so can you!
To start with, healthy hair needs to be properly nourished. Similar to taking care of our skin, our hair needs moisturizing and protecting products that help to repair the cuticle. Here are a few deeply hydrating and protective hair care products that I highly recommend.
Hair Care Products & Tools
- Bode 1 Hair (All-in-One Shampoo & Conditioner)
- BioSilk Hydrating Therapy Pure Moisture Leave-In Spray
- Dessange Paris Top Coat Serum (with UV Filter & Vitamin E)
- Wide Tooth Comb
- Ionic Round Brush
- Conair Hot Rollers
- Karmin Ionic Hair Dryer
STEP 1: After washing my hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, I always apply a hydrating leave-in treatment to my damp hair. This helps to lock-in essential moisture into my hair follicles, which helps to prevent dryness or frizz. I also gently wring out the excess water from my hair with a towel. However, I never wrap my hair up in a towel, as that can damage delicate hair and cause fall-out or breakage.
STEP 2: To gently untangle damp hair, I use a wide-tooth comb from roots to tips. This is better for the hair than a brush since wet hair is more prone to breakage and damage.
STEP 3:To protect hair from the damaging effects of sun exposure, I apply a UV protectant serum to the hair. This not only helps to condition the hair, but it also helps to prevent brassiness (due to oxidation) and dryness.
STEP 4: To help smooth the hair follicle (which helps it lay flatter, making hair look shinier and healthier), I always use an ionic hairdryer. I start by drying the roots before moving onto the rest of the hair. To give my hair more volume, I turn my head upside down and dry the roots at that angle, as it helps to give the roots a lift.
STEP 5:To give my hair a salon-quality blowout (which makes it look smoother, shinier, and healthier), I use an ionic round brush and dry small sections of the hair on a downward angle. By facing the blowdryer downward, it helps to make the hair follicles lay flat (which makes the hair reflect light better).
As an added step after blowdrying my hair, I often like to use hot rollers to give the hair added volume, bounce and smoothness. The hot rollers have been one of my go-to hair styling tools, as they help to finish the hairstyle.
In addition to this, Ive found that hot rollers tend to be easier and more convenient to use than curling or straight irons, as they let you multi-task while theyre setting. That means you can simultaneously do your skincare or apply your makeup while the hot rollers are up in your hair.
STEP 6:Starting with the crown (top) of the hair, I roll sections of the hair up with the roller and affix a pin (to secure it in place). I continue doing this all over the head until all the hair is up in rollers. I then let the rollers set for about 10-minutes until taking them out. After that, I allow the hair to cool down (for a few minutes) before brushing through with a comb or my fingers.
TIP: If you want full, bouncy waves (like a glamorous old Hollywood hairstyle), place the hot roller parallel to your head when rolling up a section of hair. If you prefer tendrils or spiral curls, place the hot roller on a perpendicular angle. The same rule applies when unrolling your hair, as it will change the appearance of the curl.
When you regularly use nourishing hair care products and treat your hair with a little TLC, you help to create healthy, beautiful hair. To learn more about hair care products and styling techniques, check out theHairsection on Inspirations & Celebrations.
