The best way to get chosen as a Facebook Group Member of the Month is to be visible. Well, first you need to be a member and then you have to be visible. When I asked Lisa Feldmann if she wanted to be this month’s featured member, she had just posted a question, and when I clicked on the badge next to her name it read, “valued responder.” Even though Lisa had only generated that one new conversation to the group, the badge indicated to me that she consistently provides value by offering thoughts, comments, and feedback to others. To me, someone who gives to others deserves a little recognition.
What I love about this feature most of all is it showcases just how diverse we all are. We share a common bond that unites us, which is an interest in fashion and style, but how we go about using fashion is specific and unique to each one of us. And in this post, we’re going to get to know what makes Lisa and her own style tick.
Location: Carterville, Illinois
Age: 55
Q: What do you like most about being a member of Bridgette’s Facebook Group?
A: Seeing outfit ideas and hearing about some fashion questions and challenges as well.
Q: The biggest benefits you have received from being a Group member
A: Applying feedback and fashion ideas to my own wardrobe and sense of style.
Q: What would you tell women who haven’t joined the Group yet?
A: Join us! It’s a great reprieve from everyday stressors and you get great ideas from the other members.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Casual, comfortable, streamlined with some romance and edge.
Q: How did you discover your style?
A: By seeing what I respond to which is usually jewel tones and soft pastels with grays and/ or black. I like simple yet streamlined flattering designs with details such as ruffles or statement details down the center of the body. I realized that I do not like style that adds width and would not wear trending or classic designs (such as a double-breasted pea coat) because of this.
Q: What advice do you have for others trying to find their style?
A: See what colors and shapes you respond to. And, try dog-earing catalog pages on the items you are attracted to. Speaking from the days of regular mailings of Jcrew, Tweeds, and Anthropologie catalogs. 😉
Q: What fashion issues are you currently struggling with?
A: Transitioning my work uniform from the office to working at home and still feeling “dressed for the day”.
Q: What are the most versatile items you have in your closet?
A: A pair of Vionic lavender suede wedges sandals. They go with my multi-colored items plus they can spice up an all black outfit. And, they got me through much walking all over Las Vegas.
Q: If you could go back and change the way you dressed in the past, what would you change?
A: Realize that I don’t need to try to make all fashion items and styles work. It’s okay to curate and keep what works for you. Not everything will.
Q: Is there a fashion purchase you made that you found more useful than you thought it would be?
A: My lavender suede Vionic sandals.
Q: What about a fashion purchase that you thought would solve all your problems, but didn’t?
A: Denim jackets! I have fitted, oversized, dark wash, light wash…
I just don’t wear them that much.
Q: How do you envision yourself when you look your best?
A: Sleek, sexy, and classy with some romance.
Q: What are your biggest fashion goals for the year?
A: To make some of the blouse styles I see out of natural fabrics. That’s another style challenge I guess. Finding stylish clothing that fits in natural fabrics.
Q: What is the best fashion advice you ever received?
A: Find your style uniform and keep recreating it.
Q: The first thing you take off when you get home?
A: My heels.
A: Jewel tones, soft pastels against charcoal gray and black. Recently, I have branched out and am trying earth tones.
Q: Favorite stores to shop?
A: Banana Republic, Torrid, Lord and Taylor sales, and recently Walmart.
Q: What makes you happiest?
A: Being in nature or having my windows open and listening to the night sounds when it’s warm out.
Q: What inspires you?
A: Beauty in nature plus the various color palettes seen in the different seasons.
Q: Use One Word to Describe Your Style
A: Streamlined
