15 Sustainable Fashion Brands Coveteur Staffers Love

We’ve all taken an oath of different degrees to make changes to our consumption habits. Some of us have sworn off shopping for months at a time, while others have vowed to only buy items when we really feel like we need them and that abide by sustainability and ethical standards. Lucky for us, the industry has ushered in a bevvy of brands that check those sartorial and environmental boxes. Here are some of the pieces and brands we’re currently loving.

1. Mother of Pearl One-Shoulder Fringed Floral Satin Top: Not only will I feel great wearing this silky top because it’s so feminine and beautiful, but it’s also made with traceability across its supply chains—and this particular shirt uses fibers produced by FSC-certified pulp.

2. Rave Review Asian Jacquard Slip Dress: I only recently discovered Rave Review and have become thoroughly obsessed. Crafted out of vintage Asian jacquards and handcrafted in Sweden, this dress is 100 percent recycled. I love the raw, frayed edges that take the sweetness out of the slip.

3. Boyish Bailey Midnight Cowboy Jeans: Denim production requires so much water usage, but Boyish Jeans is reducing that consumption and its carbon footprint by using recycled cotton. I love that they haven’t wavered on style—because this straight-legged pair is being added to my rotation.

1. KkCo Climber Dress in Ditzy Floral: There are a whole lot of reasons to love L.A.-based label KkCo. Committed to sustainability, the brand produces locally in limited quantities to avoid overproduction, in addition to selling at accessible, wholesale prices. Oh, and the clothes are GOOD. Case in point, this breezy asymmetrical slip I can’t wait to get my hands on.

2. Stella McCartney Stacy Trench Coat: Although I half believe in resolutions, one of mine for this year is to invest in timeless pieces and avoid wasteful purchases. Most recently, I’ve gotten the itch to invest in a trench coat, and what better choice than OG sustainable label Stella McCartney? Obviously this waist-nipping silhouette will be hanging in my closet for decades.

3. Collina Strada Silver Rhinestone Water Bottle: Per Maggie Rogers’ red carpet ensembles (seen HERE and HERE), I think it’s safe to say the water bottle has entered the world of accessorizing. In my conscious efforts to avoid plastic, mine is basically attached to my hip, giving me ample reason to upgrade to this bedazzled one by Collina Strada. Because what could be more chic in 2020 than a crystalized water bottle?

1. JW PEI Ivory Gabby Bag: JW PEI is doing vegan handbags right: Not only are they made from vegan leather, but the lining is also made from recycled plastic bottles. I was blown away by the quality the first time I ever held one, and have been eyeing the brand’s website ever since. This little Gabby bag will be getting pre-ordered immediately—and then I will start a countdown to March 30th.

2. Veja Esplar Rubber-Trimmed Leather Sneakers: While the sneaker industry is most definitely lacking in the sustainability department, Veja is an exception—the brand cuts out harmful chemicals from its production process and uses fair-trade and organic materials to create sneakers. I’m ashamed to say I don’t yet own a pair, but it’s time to change that.

3. Ninety Percent Stretch-Tencel Bodysuit: Ninety Percent is one of my favorite basics brands. I mean, look at this bodysuit. Not only is it beautiful (and the perfect match for all of the bottoms in my wardrobe), it’s also sustainable. On top of creating a manufacturing facility in Bangladesh that “puts planet and people before profit,” Ninety Percent shares 90 percent (see where the name came from?) of its distributed profits between charities that its customers vote for.

1. Brother Vellies Sombra Atlas Boot: Designer Aurora James has made it possible to live out my cowboy dreams whilst maintaining style and avoiding a sad costume. Built on ethical practices, all Brother Vellie’s shoes are handmade and ensure every purchase will be one of a kind and made with love. Take me to the nearest saloon now.

2. House of Sunny Day Tripper Cardi: A quick hop, skip, and a jump over the pond, you can find the environmentally conscious, bold, and bright brand House of Sunny. They produce small batches of collections and run these to act against fast fashion—see its recycled-care labels and stickers, organic tags, and biodegradable product bags. I love this sweater for its bright colors and sunny disposition, and it’s made from recycled materials, too.

3. Mother of Pearl Jamie Biker Jacket: Behind this dreamy jacket are multiple sustainable attributes. From organic cotton denim to using water responsibly in production, you can know every step of its journey from field to final form. Creative director Amy Powney has made it her mission to reduce her impact on the planet, and with no style loss. * adds to cart*

1. Marine Serre Moon Intervened T-Shirt: Marine Serre shook me all night long with this upcycled vintage AC/DC tee interwoven with the French brand’s instantly iconic print. Known for her eco-futurist green line, made from strictly end-of-cycle materials, the athleisure designer’s dream of a more sustainable future uses the coolest materials of the past, and what’s more “hardcore couture” than that?

2. Noah Green Paisley Lounge Pants: Nobody needs more clothing, and Noah is the first brand to admit that. That’s why they’re committed to donating a percent of their profits to environmental nonprofits. It’s also why they make sure their streetwear drops are really good ones, like these gender-neutral and ultraversatile sweats that would not be wasted on bumming around the house.

3. Cherished Objects Chanel Hair Cloud: Using silk scraps from vintage designer scarves, Cherished Objects’ oversized scrunchies are one of a kind and the ultimate in Parisian sustainability-chic, whether around a chignon or even around your wrist.
