There is something about when kids turn 5. Suddenly they are, well, kids and not babies (but they'll always be your baby, mama. Promise).
It is so fun to watch kids' personalities bloom at this age. They are learning important social and emotional skills like how to make friends, and what do with big feelings. They are curious about the world and likely asking tons of question about everything! Your 5-year-old may be learning to read. And one thing is for certain—they are constantly moving their growing little bodies.
As the mama of three kids, I have done my share of searching for presents.
Here are my favorite birthday gifts for a 5-year old:
Outer space dough set
What 5-year-old doesn't love dough? We are obsessed with Dough Parlour: The colors are gorgeous and the scents are 100% food-based, so you don't have to worry when they want to play with the dough for hours on end.
Super hero cape
My 5-year-old is constantly wearing a costume—it's time to up his game a little. Hijinks costumes are super-high quality for your little superhero. Just be prepared for them to never want to take the costumes off.
Lite-Bright
Remember Lite-Bright? It is just as fun as it always was (but probably better quality than when we were kids). It inspires creativity and helps develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination!
Wooden green dollhouse
This dollhouse might be nicer than my actual house. This wooden dollhouse includes a wind turbine, a solar cell panel, recycling bins, a rain barrel and more, teaching kids the importance of sustainability and green-living. Plus, how fun does this look?
Waiting Is Not Easy!
Mo Williams is the greatest. This lovable story about waiting for a surprise is a fun way to teach kids about patience.
Wooden mini golf set
Bring mini-gold to your backyard with with kid-sized wooden set. It includes two kids-sized golf clubs, wooden balls, challenging tracks, a hole and a bag to keep it organized. Four!
Chocolate chip muffin shirt
We tell our kids not to ply with their food, but we never said they couldn't wear it. This soft and adorable felted tee-shirt from Mi Cielo will be an instant favorite.
Letter print
For personalized art with a fun and unique twist, we adore The Individual Letter California ABC Prints from The Letters NYC. They're a fun way to decorate your kid's room, while also helping them to learn their ABCs!
Adjustable art easel
Your budding artist will love getting creative at this dual-sided easel. One side is a chalkboard and the other is a magnetic dry erase board, making it something they can play with again and again.
Om the Otter
Each book from Articulation Books is created to help kids learn about themselves (and have fun doing it). In Om the Otter, kids are taught the value of slowing down and enjoying life's simple pleasures.
Air dry clay
My kids are obsessed with this air dry clay. It is soft and flexible, easy for kids to shape and air dries just in 24 hours.
In My Heart: A Book About Feelings
Being 5 can mean lots of big feelings. This book is a sweet and beautiful way to get your little one to learn about their big feelings.
Micro kickboard
The Maxi Deluxe scooter is perfect for little ones on the go. It's easy and safe to ride, but doesn't sacrifice any of the fun.
Helmet
Scooting is more fun when we know kids are safe. I love the helmets from Nutcase. Their cute designs and comfy fits make these helmets our go-to.
