Here’s a complete roundup of Thursday’s Week 9 high school football action from around the state.

Region 1

Weber 35, Davis 9

Weber’s offense exploded for three touchdowns in the third quarter, leading them to a road win over the Darts. The Warriors used a variety of offensive weapons as all five touchdowns were scored by different players. Weber remains undefeated in Region 1 play, they will host Fremont to end their season.

“I’m really proud of our kids and coaches. I love how they continually play the game with passion and energy. Aidan Carter stepped up big and managed the game perfectly. Logan Payne and Cannon DeVries played awesome too. Our defense played their best game yet. It was a great team effort and I’m proud of our guys.”

Syracuse 19, Layton 14

After battling back and forth in the first half, it was the Syracuse defense that stepped up in the second half as the Titans earned a home victory. First, they picked up a safety in the mid-third quarter to push their lead to two possessions. It didn’t matter though as they also were able to shut out their opponent until the final three seconds of the second half en route to their Region 1 win.

“Our kids played tough throughout the course of the game. We handled the delay well and finished the ball game. It felt great to get a win against a good team.”

Farmington 21, Fremont 7

Kenyon Brown found the end zone and then Easton White threw a score to Mitch Nielsen with just seconds left in the first half to help Farmington jump out to a 14-0 lead. Their defense would continue to dominate in the second half, only allowing the score to David Calver and the Fremont offense.

Region 2

Roy 50, Granger 20

Roy dominated their way to a win over the Lancers behind a massive performance from Kobe Bennett, who has three scores on the ground for the Royals. Roy improves to 4-1 in Region 2 play heading into their season finale against Taylorsville.

Region 4

Lone Peak 41, Corner Canyon 16

Lone Peak outscored Corner Canyon 28-6 in the second half as it pulled away emphatically for the region victory and snapped the Chargers’ state-record 48-game winning streak. Jaxson Willits and Luke Durfey both ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead the way offensively for the Knights, who only scored nine points in a 14-9 loss to Skyridge the week before. The loss is Corner Canyon’s first since the 5A semifinals in 2017 when current New York Jets quarterback Zack Wilson was still leading the offense.

American Fork 41, Westlake 0

Maddux Madsen passed for five touchdowns, connecting with Fisher Ingersoll twice, and then rushed for another to lead the Cavemen in the shut out victory over Westlake.

“Great team win tonight. The defense was really lights out and gave us some short fields in the first half that we were able to capitalize on. Spencer Clegg really was flying around on defense, and came up with a few timely sacks. Offensively, Maddux was able to hit a lot of different targets and move us down the field.”

Skyridge 31, Pleasant Grove 0

Skyridge jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead and would defeat the Vikings in shut out fashion. McCaae Hillstead threw two touchdown passes to Jack Hadfield and then later broke free on a 71-yard touchdown run to extend the Falcons lead before halftime. The win puts Skyridge in a three-way tie on top of the Region 4 standings heading into the final week.

Region 6

Olympus 10, Highland 7

In a tightly-contested defensive game in Region 6, Josh Peterson scored on a two-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter which proved to be the decisive TD for the Titans who held on for the win. Highland had taken the lead late in the third quarter on an Ashton Zwick 2-yard TD pass from Elijah Tolbert.

East 62, Murray 27

Amini Amone rushed for three touchdowns, one of six rushing touchdowns for the Leopards, who rolled past Murray for the region win. East built a 30-7 lead midway through the second quarter, but the Spartans responded with two Kyler Nielsen TD runs to cut the deficit to 30-21. Amone extended the lead again on a 55-yard TD right before halftime and East never looked back.

Region 7

Cedar Valley 27, Mountain View 14

Cooper Thomson threw touchdown passes to Taygen Hansen and Noah Burnham in the first half and then Easton Schank added a pair of rushing scores in the second half as the Aviators pulled away from Mountain View for the region win.

Timpanogos 48, Tooele 34

Timpanogos picked up a big home win over the Buffaloes behind five Matu Holdaway touchdowns. The win pushes the Timberwolves to 5-1 in Region 7 play. They will finish their season next week against Stansbury who is still undefeated in region.

“Super proud of the way the boys responded out of halftime. Taking a 7-point lead and making it 28 in the 4th quarter. The boys executed the in game adjustments that Coach Anderson and Haymore made on their respective side of the ball.”

Region 8

Timpview 28, Lehi 14

Timpview outdueled the Pioneers in a battle to determine the Region 8 champion. Micah Beckstead and Tei Nacua scored touchdowns early to give the Thunderbirds an early lead, but Jackson Brousseau would connect with Jaxon Christensen for two scores in the third quarter to tie the game up. Later in the period Liu Aumavae would throw for his second touchdown of the game before scoring on the ground to help his team grab the win. Timpview will take on Jordan to close their schedule with a chance to finish undefeated in region play.

“We came in thinking Lehi is one of the top teams in 5A for sure. Plus (this win) was for the region title, so it’s good for our kids. I think our kids outdid some adversity. I think penalties were 22 to eight; kind of hard to believe. We just played through that, and we came out with a win. When we had to score, we scored.”

Alta 58, Jordan 24

Ethan Jackson passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more and then Anson Jaramillo added three more rushing scores of his own as Alta jumped all over Jordan en route to the bounce-back region win over falling to Lehi last week.

Region 9

Spanish Fork 41, Maple Mountain 13

Spanish Fork picked up at least a share of the Region 9 title with a road win over Maple Mountain. Six different Dons scored a touchdown as a spread-out attack helped the offense put a ton of points on the board. Provo and Springville each only have one region loss as well and will took to tie Spanish Fork at the top of the standings in their games on Friday.

3A North

Grantsville 39, Union 0

Grantsville shut out Union after a dominant 29-0 second half. Caleb Sullivan threw two touchdown passes and Seth Richardson returned a blocked kick 75-yards for a key score in the first half.

“Special teams came up big for us tonight scoring 19 points off of a scoop-and-score, blocked field goal, a fake punt, a field and 4 PATs. Defense was dominating again and offense controlled the clock.”

Morgan 33, Ogden 7

Tate Nelson passed for a touchdown and rushed for two more as Morgan cruised past region foe Ogden for the win in a game that was called because after a lightning delay with 2:30 left in the third quarter.

Juan Diego 49, Ben Lomond 13

The Soaring Eagle jumped out to a 42-7 lead at the half and never looked back en route to the big victory over Ben Lomond. Dallas Larson and Michael Hulverson each rushed for two scores in the win for Juan Diego.

“Our boys came out on fire tonight scoring 21 in each of the opening quarters. Our starting defense was not scored on and came up with some big turnovers. I’m very proud of this team and especially our seniors. And hats off to Ben Lomond as they kept battling and never quit.”

2A North

South Summit 49, Judge Memorial 0

Kyler Sudweeks had another huge game for South Summit as he had a hand in six of South Summit’s seven touchdowns in the lopsided victory over Judge. Sudweeks passed for four touchdowns (two each to Ricky Perez and Calaby Thompson) and rushed for two more to spearhead the win.

“The boys played great tonight. Glad we made it without any lightning delays. Judge surprised us with their change of offense. Our defense made some adjustment and the response was good. We have a few more players to get healthy and we should be full strength. The Wildcats are coming together and peaking at the right time.”

Nonregion

Brighton 49, Clearfield 3

Jack Johnson tossed four touchdowns, including three to Dante McMaster, as Brighton jumped all over Clearfield for the nonregion victory. The game went into a lightning delay late with 7:47 left in the third quarter and was never resumed.
