A fun printable matching game for kids, this Alice in Wonderland Memory Game is perfect for an Alice in Wonderland movie night – or just some Disney-inspired fun!
Alice in Wonderland Printable Game
While planning our Queen of Hearts Valentine’s Party, I was making a bunting banner with playing cards and thought I’d look up some Alice-inspired playing cards online.
While the cards were really pretty and would make a great gift for an Alice in Wonderland fan, they were a bit too expensive for me to want to buy for my 5 year old. Instead, I thought I’d make her a simple Alice Memory Game.
Memory games are great at teaching logic and building memory retention (“cognitive reserve”) – but kids just think they are fun!
You can also print out two copies of this Alice Memory Game and use it to play other card games like Go Fish – or even use the Queen of Hearts card for a twist on Old Maid.
This Alice in Wonderland game would be great for a goody bag item at a Alice in Wonderland-themed party.
I like to laminate our games so we can use them multiple times. This is the laminator I use, and I just buy the super cheap packages of laminate sheets from Amazon. It costs about 13 cents a sheet to laminate which lets us get so much use out of any activity we print out.
I then store the games in ziptop bags in a small clear plastic tote in our games closet so Ella can grab them whenever she wants to play. This method keeps all of the cards (or game pieces) together and makes it easy for her to clean up after herself.
Materials Needed for our Alice in Wonderland Matching Game
- Alice in Wonderland Matching Game Printable Game
- White cardstock
- Laminating paper (and laminator)
- Scissors
- Glue, optional
Simply print and cut out each card from the printable PDF.
I also glued our printable game on red card stock paper to ensure that the cards couldn’t be seen through and it also added a pretty touch.
You could alternatively glue the individual matching cards to the front of playing cards for a truly Alice-inspired twist.
How to Use this Alice Memory Card Game
Mix up all of the cards by shuffling the deck.
Lay the cards face-down on a table or floor in a grid pattern.
Show the children how to flip over two cards looking for a match, and encourage them to do the same.
If a child reveals a card whose “match” has already been seen, encourage them to try to remember where they may have seen that card before.
When a match is found, have your child remove it from the grid and set aside.
This game can be played independently or as part of a group. If playing with friends or siblings, the person who has the most “matches” at the end of the game is the winner.
