Quarantine was such an unprecedented time for all of us and while at first it was quite the transition to juggle working from home and homeschooling two little ones at the same time, I can now look back and say that the last two months also brought some incredible opportunities!  Some days felt absolutely crazy as I was juggling so many more responsibilities but looking back, it was also a great opportunity to learn more about my kids.  I tackled several projects that have been on my todo list for years and even picked up a few new skills!  It brought awareness to all of us on systemic racism issues that still plague our nation and it’s brought upon great conversations that were long overdue.

Now that we’re slowly reopening, I thought it would be fun to look back and see all the different things we tried during our time sheltering in place.  So many trending ideas surfaced such as Dalgona whipped coffee and pancake cereal, so read on for my list of new things I tried during quarantine!

  1.  Organized my bathroom.
Our bathroom vanity was absolute chaos as there were products scattered all throughout.  I finally picked up a few organizers, tossed out old products, and organized it so that now everything has a place!  It’s been so much more calming to have an organized bathroom that it makes my self-care time so much more enjoyable too!
  2. Cleaned out my closet.
I was able to fill up 5 tall garbage bags with clothes and shoes!  I’ll be getting with one of my friends who helps me sell and list clothes to have them listed on my Poshmark.
  3. Finished my closet + office (any interest in a “cloffice” post?).
I updated my “cloffice” a few months ago and swapped out my bookshelves with a customized wardrobe system.  You’ve probably seen a few peeks on my Instagram (here and here) but I was finally able to get the remaining drawers filled up and transitioned over from my previous closet!
  4. Organized our kitchen junk drawer.
Omg, this drawer was so bad that it was even getting hard to close.  I repurposed some of my other drawer organizers that I was no longer using for jewelry and it worked out perfectly for the junk drawer!
  5. Had a mini spa day with my 5-year old daughter, Mei.
We both put on our bathrobes (my parents bought this super cute Hello Kitty one for Mei!) and terry cloth headbands as I pulled out different face masks for us to play with!
  6. Baked banana bread (like 6 times!).
Safe to say this is probably one of our favorite things to do during quarantine! 😋  We followed this healthy banana bread recipe from Cookie + Kate.
  7. Started a garden with vegetable scraps.
Mostly succeeded with getting my green onion roots to re-sprout (thanks to tips from Jean in her post!).
  8. Incorporated green smoothies into weekly diet.
For the days when I’m not super hungry, I’ve been subbing in a green smoothie for lunch!  Also picked up a Vejo starter kit and loving the Clean Greens smoothie blend.

  9. Started running on the treadmill for 2 miles, 5 days a week.
I needed a simple goal that I could keep up during quarantine and just logging in a 2-mile run on my treadmill was a good daily goal for me!
  10. Had weekly family bike rides.
I don’t remember the last time I rode my bike before quarantine but now we try to make it a point to go on a family bike ride at least once a week!
  11. Figured out my Enneagram type.
It was eye-opening to understand my Enneagram type and just having a better understanding of my internal motivators has been helpful during quarantine.
  12. Played a new board game with the kids.
Adrian is big on board games and recently picked up Zombie Kids for us to play.  I was a bit skeptical when I first heard the name but turns out it’s super fun and the kids love it!
  13. Tried new online fitness workouts.
I’ve loved the John Benton Model Fitness workouts (so good for abs!) but have also really loved trying The Sculpt Society!
  14. Painted rocks to distribute in our neighborhood.
We picked up these markers to use for painting rocks and it’s been so fun for the whole family!  We then go on walks to disperse them around the neighborhood and the kids love seeing when their rocks have been taken.
  15. Completed 4 puzzles.
The last time I did a puzzle I was probably in high school!  Growing up as an only child, I used to love puzzles and spent a good chunk of my childhood working on them.  I let the kids pick out a few puzzles (we did one, two, three, and four — can you tell Mei loves Frozen? 😊) and it was fun to get back into them as a family!
